For the third time in three weeks Adam Lepkowsky faced Mike DiMartino. The first time at the head to head league match Lepkowsky won 1-0, then at the league tournament in the finals Lepkowsky won again 5-0, but no victory is as sweat as the county title. With 10 seconds left Lepkowsky on top slipped in a Guillotine and dropped DiMartino for a near fall to score two back points and win the County at 140.

Chanse Menendez ranked second behind Pucka of Huntington in the tournament wrestled straight through to the finals. Pucka losing to Merante in the Semi's faced Menedez, but the two-time All-American was too much to handle. In a close head to head match Menedez dropped Merante with a single to take the title.

 

Hauppauge Beats Wantagh to Claim Title at Tom Ryan Duals

It came down to the match between Wantaugh and Hauppauge to decide who would take the Tom Ryan duals. West, Lepkowsky and Mike Ehlinger ran up the points with pins and major decisions, but the highlight came when Nick Mauriello pinned Barabato (3rd place in the states last year) to ice the cake and bring it home for Hauppauge.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Eastern States Classic

Hauppauge Delivers 5 Place Winners

At New Yorks toughest tournament, The easter States Classic, which many claim is harder than the state finals as each weight class has between 64 and 70 wrestlers, Hauppauge placed 5. Lead by captains Adam Lepkowsky (placing 2nd) and Chanse Menendez (placing 6th), followed by Nick Mauriello (placing 3rd), Mark West (placing 5th) and Anthony Martello (placing 8th). The eagles went through some of the top wrestlers in the state to place in this highly ranked tournament scouted by many of the top colleges in the east.

2011 All-Long Island wrestling The most outstanding high school athletes on the mats in 2010-11, as selected by Newsday's Evan Korn and MSG Varsity's Gregg Sarra.

 Hauppauge, 140, Sr. Up one point in the waning seconds of the state final against LaSalle's Connor Sutton, a controversial two-point reversal call cost Lepkowsky a chance at the crown. State disappointment aside, Lepkowsky won both the Suffolk and League V titles. His 46-3 senior campaign and near-win in Albany catapulted him to elite status.

Hauppauge, 171, Sr. At 42-5, Menendez kept an active schedule against top-flight competition that culminated in a state title. In the state final, he methodically broke down Queensbury's Matt Lashaway en route to a 9-3 decision. After the bad luck that befell teammate Lepkowsky, Menendez ensured that the Eagles returned home with one state champion.
